21 Aug The Factory: From Storage to Family Entertainment
Six months ago the senior management of a large storage company approached KristallTurm North America about The Factory. A vision they held to develop a unique project and rejuvenate a former industrial area in London, Ontario.
Located in Canada, EE McLaughlin had recently purchased a large parcel of land. Land that was once a Kellogg’s factory — the internationally recognized cereal brand.
How to Fill A Factory?
Rather than continue with the same storage model across the property, the team decided to explore something new and exciting.
What does a creative property owner and storage company do with an old Factory?
Something to bring vibrancy to the community and strong returns throughout the year.
The Partners chose to use the enormous open space for entertainment. Each room allocated to an activity suited to a different taste. So “The Factory” was born.
“At a media conference on Aug. 16, property owner E&E McLaughlin Ltd. and Tourism London teamed
up to offer a glimpse of what the all-new 100 Kellogg project will bring to the Forest City. That lineup — at
least Phase 1 of the project — will include not only North America’s largest indoor ropes course and a 20,000-sq.-ft. trampoline park, but also London’s latest micro-brewery and some 90,000 sq. ft. of office space.” – OurLondon News
An Aerial Park is Born
KristallTurm has since designed a pair of towers to fill some 10 000 square feet of space. Rising 82 feet into the air, our towers set the stage for what is to become the largest FEC in North America.
Linking the towers are four zip lines. One of three options to get down — an 82 foot freefall.
In a statement, Mayor Matt Brown called the redevelopment plan a significant investment in the Old East Village and the city at large, adding it will have a “significant economic impact for London.” – CBC News.
More information is set to be released in the coming months.
An opening date is pegged for January 15th. KristallTurm will release information as The Factory begins to take shape.
A final word from Dan Cassidy, General Manager and one of the partners in The Factory component of the project: “The opportunities 100 Kellogg will offer are unquestionably second to none.” CBC News
KristallTurm is proud to be partnering with the team at The Factory.
